WOMEN and BOOKS

This week the selection panel met to chose the work for the show.  Artists, Nicky Hirst and Sarah Sparkes (Curator) and Lily Harris, Head of Development at Dulwich Picture Gallery were impressed by the quality of work submitted.  And they were enthusiastic about the theme in the context of a library.

Libraries are now under threat, so regular shows at Dulwich Library are especially timely.  The panel like the idea of accompanying text as they felt it further enhanced the connection between visual art and the written word.

We will be emailing out to you the flyer and private view invitation soon.  Please be sure to send it to all your contacts!

This is a special show!  It not only actively supports libraries under threat, it also coincides with the celebrations for the centenary of International Women’s Day by celebrating the wonderful and diverse talent of women artists in South London!

There will be tours on Wednesdays 2 and 16 March at 3.30pm which will include talks by some of the exhibiting artists, and also visits for schools each Tuesday and Wednesday  1.30- 3.30pm.

If you would like to participate contact Ilinca info@ilinca.co.uk,  Jackie jackiekbrown20a@gmail.com

On the morning of October 13th the selection panel met to choose the work for the fourth SLWA exhibition to be held  at Dulwich Library. It took Emily Druiff, Mella Shaw and Maria Chevska more than two hours to view over 130 images and choose the final 46 pieces to be displayed. By lunchtime the final decisions had been made and the work will be on show in the library from 31st October until 27th November.

The Private View is on the  3rd November  from 8 pm – 10 pm and the invitation is open to everyone.
Whether or not you have work in the show please show your support for the SLWA  by not only coming along yourself but by inviting as many people as possible to join us. The strength and continued growth of SLWA depends on greater exposure of the group and this is a responsibility that falls at the feet of every member.  An awful lot of work goes into organising these library  shows  so  please do your bit by distributing flyers and e-mailing invites. Every exhibition is a chance to raise our profile which obviously benefits all of us!
Can anyone help with making canapés for the Private View? If so please email art@paolaminekov.com

CELEBRATING WOMEN ARTISTS
Dulwich Library 28 February -27March 2010

SLWA will be showcasing our artists’ work at Dulwich Library in March 2010 as part of Southwark’s Celebrating Women Month, consolidating SLWA’s profile in Dulwich our core area. We are expanding the range and the number of works on display by showing some 3D pieces in Dulwich Library and by hanging 2Dwork in the Pavilion Café in Dulwich Park. The café is a five minute walk from the Library and serves a different and lively clientele.

Whilst many members will be busy preparing work for Bankside this is a good time to think about smaller works you already have that would look good at the Library or the Pavilion.      (more…)

To coincide with their second exhibition at the Dulwich Library, South London Women Artists launched their education programme.

Artists Jackie Brown and Pia Randall-Godard worked with local primary schools, Goodrich and St. Anthony’s, while Jane Higginbottom worked with a group of AS students from James Alleyn’s Girls School.

The workshops were designed to focus on good sketch book practise and the development of ideas. (more…)
