Actions from our 2010 AGM
SLWA wants PARTICIPATION PARTICIPATION PARTICIPATION:
The SLWA AGM 2010 took place at Dulwich Picture Gallery on 28 June. Some 35 members were there to hear reports from the Steering Group about activities in 2009/2010 and to work together to plan events for the next 12 months.
The theme of the AGM was Participation! Bankside – our prestigious London Show was made possible by the close working of 13 SLWAs over a 6 month period. SLWA is more than a website. We are a supportive community of artists, and the energy that generates was apparent and commented on in the work shown at Bankside.
The AGM agreed that SLWA can ask non-active members to forego their membership.
Being active, can be as simple as
- adding SLWA to your publicity material
- adding the SLWA strapline to your email signature
- linking your website to the SLWA website http://southlondonwomenartists.co.uk/local-arts-links/
- writing a short article about a show or your art for the website
- taking on a small part in a larger event. Members will be supported and learn new skills.
- joining one of the teams running the website, publicity and events such at Artists Talking
- putting work into SLWA’s local exhibitions which keep our profile high
Job sharing
Job sharing with a member of the steering group to cover holidays, illness etc is a new way to participate. All the SLWA Roles are set out at the bottom of this page. About half the roles are now job shared. – See where you can volunteer to help.
A Major show 2011/2012
All present said they would like a large exhibition within one to one and a half years. A majority voted for another open submission and agreed that an all-in price that includes the handling fee, hanging, publicity and private view costs best. Suggestions were put forward for Galleries.
Subgroups
Without a major exhibition in the next 12 months it was proposed to set up Subgroups where artists working in the same medium might jointly mount exhibitions with opportunities for critiques, sharing expertise, etc. Shows would be run under the auspices of SLWA which would be mutually beneficial.
